Signature Bean

What is a Signature Bean? | View Past Signature Beans

The Signature Bean for July is Jenn Smith (just jenn)!

Congratulations!

Jenn was chosen because of her impressive scrapbook gallery and her active participation in our message board. You can read more about Jenn and her scrapbooking style in her interview below!

Ten of Jenn's layouts were chosen to be scraplifted by our design team, and here are the ones we chose. You may click on any of the images to see a larger version of the layout and to leave praise in Jenn's Gallery for your favorite layouts!

We asked Jenn to tell us a little more about herself, and this is what she had to say!

When did you start scrapbooking?

I started in Summer of 1997 and have had a few breaks in there because of school and all. I always loved scrapbooking and didn't have the time for about a year. I quickly came back to it and jumped in with all my force.

How and who introduced you?

I was invited to a Creative Memories party by my cousin when I was spending a week with her in Wisconsin. I loved what we did that night. I ended up completing an entire album of my high school years (to that point) in that week. I was so amazed. I have since gone back and re-done the album to include my senior year.

How do you get started on your layouts, cards or any paper crafting project?

Most of the time I start scrapping with creating an accent. I am able to use all kinds of creativity on one little thing and it flows to the next. I try to pre-create layouts so I can just fit the pictures right in when they see fit. I love having the freedom to grab 10 products and making myself use them on a page. I have made some of my best layouts this way.

Who/What are your sources of inspiration?

Life is what inspires me the most. I see colors and ideas all around me every day. Just driving by a building in Downtown Fort Worth gave me a great idea one time for a layout and it turned out great. I love looking for sources of inspiration online as well. The wealth of knowledge out there is miraculous. Just think how much we would never see if it weren't for the internet.

What has been your biggest achievement with scrapbooking?

My best achievement is being able to show complete strangers my albums and them not having to ask a single question because of my detailed journaling. Now if I could only say that it was because I was published somewhere.

Does your family support your habit?

My family knows what I do and they acknowledge it. I wouldn't necessarily say that that support it but they know that I love what I do and they enjoy the end product.

What is your favorite product line and what are your favorite colors to work with?

I love several lines. Right now I have been using a lot of Rusty Pickle, Making Memories, and Bazill. I love working with red! I love the brightness of it and I try to incorporate it (or a shade of it) in every layout.

What is your favorite technique right now?

I am all about inking! I absolutely love going around my edges with my Nick Bantock Inks (by Ranger).

What is your biggest thrill with this hobby?

My biggest thrill is being able to help others on their layouts. I personally love to work on subjects that aren't my own. It lets me think outside of the box.

What else do you want to SDD members to know about you?

I am 23 years old. I am single and looking. LOL :) I just moved to be closer to my new job. I will be teaching 5th grade! I can't wait to be in my own classroom starting August 16th. Nervous doesn't begin to describe my feelings.

I love working with children as well as being with my family. I am a people person who loves to spoil others.

Want to be considered as the Signature Bean for next month?

Every month we will be choosing one of our very talented members to be our Signature Bean of the month. The Signature Bean is a member who is an active participant on both the message board and the gallery. How do you get chosen? Just showcase some of your layouts in the gallery and post like crazy on the message board, and you could become our next Signature Bean of the month!

What does the Signature Bean get from all of this? They pick ten of their best layouts for our design team to scraplift, they are featured on their own page for the entire month, they get a cute little title for the month that they are the Signature Bean, and they also get a little prize too!
