Signature Bean

What is a Signature Bean?

The Signature Bean for July is Kat Hogan (Scraptastickat)!

Congratulations!

Kat was chosen this month because of her wonderful scrapbook gallery and her active participation in our message board. She contributes a lot to different topics on the message board. She is also helping Molly and this site out by putting together a monthly newsletter that will debut soon. You can read more about Kat and her scrapbooking style in her interview below!

Ten of Kat's layouts were chosen to be scraplifted by our design team, and here are the ones we chose. You may click on any of the images to see a larger version of the layout and to leave praise in Kat's Gallery for your favorite layouts!

We asked Kat to tell us a little more about herself, and this is what she had to say!

When did you start scrapbooking?

I started scrapping in the fall of 1997 and was instantly addicted!

How and who introduced you?

I was invited to a creative memories home party by my mother in law and fell in love instantly with the whole concept of scrapping. I’ve never looked back and have a ton of fun scrapbooking!

How do you get started on your layouts, cards or any paper crafting project?

This really depends on my mood. Sometimes I have a product picked out that I want to use on a layout but other times I will choose the photos and then match products up to them. Usually when I am making a card it’s for a special event so that will determine the cards. Other paper crafting I do is specifically designed for a new technique or idea I have learned.

Who/What are your sources of inspiration?

The obvious choices are the magazines, online forums and other readily available material. Although I do use them usually what inspires me are things that are totally non-scrapping. Designs of rooms are a big inspiration because of all the textures and colors that are used in them. Nature is another big inspiration for me. You will never find anything else more inspiring than sitting outside on a swing and taking in all that is around you. The colors and textures of the earth are very appealing to me so I tend to pay attention to them and let them inspire me!

What has been your biggest achievement with scrapbooking?

I have a couple of answers here. Being on design teams in the past was a big achievement for me. Its always fun to be chosen as one of the best! Another achievement is being published in four Design Originals idea books. Its nice to receive a call from them and have them ask me to do projects for an upcoming book! I think my favorite achievement is when friends or family (especially my son) look through my albums and read what I have written then laugh and comment on how wonderful the pages are. That will bring a smile to my face every time!

Does your family support your habit?

Yes! My hubby is so wonderful! He has never once complained about how much time I spend scrapping. He didn’t complain when he gave up his garage just so I would have more scrapping space and he never complains about how much money I spend on scrapping supplies. I am incredibly lucky to have such an adoring husband!

What is your favorite product line and what are your favorite colors to work with?

WOW… what a tough question! I like way too many product lines but I would have to say that right now my favorites would have to be Making Memories and Chatterbox. I just can’t get enough of either of them! My favorite colors to work with are earth tones. I’m really into deep, rich colors. I love the look of bright colors but for some reason I just cannot scrap with them too often.

What is your favorite technique right now?

Uggggg do I have to choose just one? I love all different techniques but I would imagine my favorite at the moment would have to be distressing. I am all about the inking and sanding everything!

What is your biggest thrill with this hobby?

Are you kidding? It would definitely be when the new products are coming out and I get to go shopping for them! I’m giddy almost like a schoolgirl waiting for the products featured at HIA and ACCI to hit the stores!

What else do you want to SDD members to know about you?

Well lets see… I have lived in the same house for 27 years. My parents built this little house and when they decided to move my hubby and I bought it! I love it here because its right across the street from a lake and its very peaceful!

I have been married to my hubby now for 6 years and he adopted my son three years ago!

I have a house full of animals! I have 5 dogs, 3 ferrets, 2 kitties and a snake! I love them all like they were my first-born children. I just couldn’t imagine a house without animals!

I guess that’s about it for now! Thanks so much for choosing me to be your very first Artist of the month! I can’t tell you what a great honor it is for me to be chosen!

Want to be considered as the Signature Bean for next month?

Every month we will be choosing one of our very talented members to be our Signature Bean of the month. The Signature Bean is a member who is an active participant on both the message board and the gallery. How do you get chosen? Just showcase some of your layouts in the gallery and post like crazy on the message board, and you could become our next Signature Bean of the month!

What does the Signature Bean get from all of this? They pick ten of their best layouts for our design team to scraplift, they are featured on their own page for the entire month, they get a cute little title for the month that they are the Signature Bean, and they also get a little prize too!
